Maya Irving
Maya Irving is a painter and performance artist creating on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation.
Her practice resides at the enigmatic juncture of human sensuality and creative expression.
With a fascination for the interplay between our sexual and creative energies, Maya delves into uncharted realms where movement, intuitive mark-making, and vibrant colours converge to unveil the complex tapestry of her inner and outer landscapes.
In her process Maya becomes the artist and the subject, celebrating her body and it’s expression, reclaiming the female nude that has been a predominant subject in art history, objectified and sexualised through the lense of the male gaze.
Maya hopes her practice is a testament to the power of creative exploration as a means of catharsis and transformation.
